At first sight this fairy-tale castle might look like a French castle or Bavarian palace, but it’s actually Dunrobin Castle. It is seat of the Earl of Sutherland, in the Scottish Highlands, and it is the largest house in the north of Scotland. Dunrobin’s origins lie in the Middle Ages, but most of the present building and the gardens was added by Sir Charles Barry, who extensively remodeled the castle and grounds in the early 1800s. This former school is now open to the public.
